UAP Supports Fire Door Safety Week 2020

UAP are again supporting Fire Door Safety Week this year, which runs from the 21st to the 27th of September 2020.
Founded by the British Woodworking Federation, the BWF-CERTIFIRE Fire Door Scheme and the UK’s Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS), Fire Door Safety Week aims to raise awareness of the importance of fire doors and the need for their proper installation and maintenance in residential and public buildings.
“In everyday use the simple purpose of a fire door is just as any other door. However, since the break-out of a fire is never predictable, a fire door, unlike any other door must perform to prime purpose – to delay the spread of fire and smoke; protecting lives and property”
With everyone still spending a lot more of their days at home than usual during the Coronavirus pandemic and many people working flexibly away from the office, it’s more important than ever to ensure that people’s homes are fire safe and that they can safely exit should an emergency arise. Life threatening incidents can easily and rapidly occur in high rise buildings without proper working fire door exits, and the tragic case of Grenfell tower in 2017 serves as a reminder of how important this issue really is.
The campaign provides lifesaving information for residents, landlords and building managers, providing a helpful ‘Toolkit’ which includes useful tips and steps to check a fire door for proper functionality and safety. Visit the Fire Door Safety Week website to learn more.
