With National Home Security Month in full swing we want to give you some essential home security tips to help battle burglaries this autumn:

1) Lock up!
Yes, this also means when you are in your house. It only takes a second to lock a door behind you once you’ve entered your home, so keep it locked and keep thieves out!

2) Protect windows as well as doors
It is not enough to lock your doors, all entry points need to be secure. Be sure that you have the appropriate locks for your windows and use them.

3) Do that bit extra
Our MAX6MUM Security door chains offer an extra obstacle for any intruders who do manage to get through your lock. This inexpensive extra security fixture can mean the difference between an intruder getting in and staying out.

4) Change your locks
You need to be sure you know exactly who has access to your property. If you have moved into a new home, have the locks changed and know who you are giving spare keys to.

5) Upgrade to 3* security
Make sure you’re locks are as reliable as they can be. This might mean replacing the cylinder to one of our 3* Kinetica’s or adding a cylinder guard for extra protection against lock bumping. 3* Security is the highest grading, so you can’t go wrong.

6) Get a better view
Why would a criminal go to the trouble of breaking in when they can just knock on the door? By installing a UAP Door Viewer you can see exactly who’s on the other side of the door without having to open it, giving you more control over who can gain entry to your home.

7) Brighten up your exterior
62% of burglaries take place in the dark! By installing outside lighting you make it harder for a burglar to be inconspicuous.

8) Keep valuables hidden
Don’t leave valuables on display. By keeping these items out of sight, burglars will have less reason to break an entry. So keep things hidden and blinds and curtains closed when you aren’t around.

9) Go anti-vandal
Our anti-vandal letter plate will ensure your post is secure, and in turn the safety of your identity. It will also prevent burglaries by making it extremely difficult for anyone to put their hand or a hook through the letter box.

Taking even the smallest precautions can make the biggest difference in protecting your home. By using as many deterrents as possible, you can slow down an intruder enough that eventually they give up. Or can buy enough time for an onlooker or yourself to notice and call the police.

In this day and age with burglars becoming more and more cunning you need to safeguard property against more than just those who want to break into your home but also those who will simply knock to try and gain entry.
