We want to see burglars left out in the cold this autumn and that’s why UAP are supporting the National Home Security Month campaign. With anti-bump, anti-drill, anti-pick security features on our locks and doors, you won’t go wrong this autumn!

With burglaries peaking around this period, it is an ideal time to make sure all of the access points of your home are as secure as possible. This includes having the most secure door hardware, from locks and cylinders to additional security features on both doors and windows.

MAX6MUM Security products are designed to secure your home at an affordable price with easy to fit products, making them an essential feature for your overall home security.

4 Ways a burglar can breach a lock:

cylinders

It is not always enough to have locked your door; intruders are becoming smart with their methods of breaking and entering. Luckily for you MAX6MUM Security products are smart with their anti-burglar features.

Here are 4 common lock breaking methods we can help you safeguard against:

1) Lock bumping is one the worst ways in which a lock can be breached, as it leaves no trace of forced entry, and therefore means insurance companies won’t pay out. It involves a key being ‘bumped’ into a lock and in turn causing the pins in the cylinder to bounce up and down, tricking them into opening.
Our cylinders come with a patented timing pin system that does not use trap pins. Trap pins which are commonly found in other cylinders completely lock the cylinder if bumped, which will trap you in your house.

2) Picking is another entry gaining method and is still one of the most common forms of lock breaching. Yes this does take a great deal of skill; however it is not impossible and still needs safeguarding against. We use 3 anti-pick pins on each side of the lock to prevent picking.

3) Another technique used by thieves is drilling. By using anti-drill pins on either side of the door lock, our cylinders are almost impossible to drill into.

4) Lock snapping accounts for around 27% of all burglaries. When the cylinder overhangs by 2mm or more, which is common in budget locks, they can easily be snapped. Our MAX6MUM Security cylinders have sacrificial cut lines, which break instead of the central screw hole. Keeping the lock secure and you able to lock and unlock it until it can be replaced.
To avoid lock snapping it is a good idea to purchase one of our cylinder gauges, this way you can be sure that the cylinder you are fitting will be correct size, which will avoid them being snapped.

If you want to avoid any of these nasty techniques being used on your doors, you need to invest in the best locks and cylinders. Some of the more budget cylinders come with almost no security features on them, and in the dark of night, an intruder would have no trouble breaking in.

All of the MAX6MUM security products have been given the Association of Chief Police Officers ‘Secured by Design’ approval – making them the products that give the maximum protection.
