3 Star Security and the BSi Kitemark Explained

What is 3 Star Security?
The TS007:2012 BSi Kitemark is the security rating for door hardware and cylinders. The system has 3 ratings, starting at 1 and with 3 being the highest. 1 or 3 stars can be awarded to cylinders and 2 stars awarded to door hardware such as handles or cylinder guards.
For a cylinder to gain a 1 star rating is must pass the criteria set out on BS EN 1303:2005 but it does not pass snapping tests. 3 star Kitemarked cylinders pass both tests, proving to withstand 5 types of attack; drilling, picking, bumping, snapping and plug extraction.
The TS007 3 star rating is the highest rating and considered the ultimate door security solution. However, installing a 3 star cylinder is not the only way to get this level of security. By installing a TS007 1 star cylinder with the backup of a TS007 2 star door hardware product you can also achieve 3 star security status.
To achieve a 2 star rating, door hardware must meet standards set out in the PAS24:2007 hardware and cylinder test. During the test the hardware will be fitted with a 1 star cylinder with minimal anti-snap features, but should still pass snapping tests.
It is always recommended that 1 star cylinders are used with 2 star door hardware.
Remember that 3 star cylinders are the newest generation of cylinders, and locks that have passed an older Kitemark, prior to TS007:2012 have not been tested for lock snapping.
The Kitemark is a UK product and service quality accreditation operated by the British Standards Institution (BSi). The TS007 standard has been developed by Secured by Design, the Door and Hardware Federation and the Glass and Glazing Federation.
